Who is the most famous person you have ever met? What were the circumstances?
I leave the definition of "famous" as an exercise for the reader.

Date: 2004-05-29 08:35 pm (UTC)No, seriously it would have to be someone who came through the airport. If we're talking worldwide it would probably be the president of Colombia, but considering that most Americans wouldn't know him... I guess I'd have to say Dick Van Dyke.
Outside the airport, probably either Oliver North (who did a live broadcast from the station while I was still in radio, and who surprised me by being a genuinely nice guy. Still can't stand his politics though) or Bob Denver (book signing, years ago).
And of course, as I've stated many times (though I'm really not sure WHY), as a child I DID live down the street from John Wayne Bobbitt for a year.

Date: 2004-05-29 09:22 pm (UTC)i'd say ben stein. my sister put up a fansite about him when win ben stein's money first came on the air.. while doing research, we found his email address, he liked the site, made it official, decide to make us his web monkeys, and eventually flied us to los angeles to meet him.
the most famous person i've been in the precence of, though, is mick jagger, though i didn't meet him. i was about 15 feet away from him, though. i was at the los angeles airport, getting my baggage checked at curbside, when a lincoln towncar pulls up, and out steps mick. he immediately got mobbed, though, and i really didn't want to bother with it.

Date: 2004-05-31 04:20 pm (UTC)(And no, he didn't do anything that would warrant a suit, an investigation, or anything else--so stay outta my LJ, you Republican inquisitors!)
While he was running for president the first time around, Lauren and I went to a Dem rally in Riverfront Park where he spoke. Afterward, he was in a nearby area, and a guy asked me, "Would you like to meet the future president of the United States? You two come with me!"
So I put Lauren on my shoulders (she was a lot younger then) and went with him, and there Bill was, shaking hands with everyone, talking and showing some sincere interest in what people had to say. Lauren started yelling, "HI BILL!" over and over, trying to get him to look at her. He turned, put his hand out, and shook my girl's hand while she was on my shoulders.
Shaking mine, he complimented the earrings I was wearing. I had put them on that day and decided maybe I would get rid of them, as I hardly ever wore them, but after that, I decided to keep them. :)
He listened politely to us, and it was truly a wonderful moment for both of us.
The best part is, the local paper had someone covering the gathering, so Lauren's name ended up in the paper and we have proof that she met him.
