I'd like to send this one out to
amothea, who is moving from Houston to Anchorage. I'm going to miss you!
There's gonna be a Browncoat wedding!

Alliance flags: correctness?
Jun. 14th, 2008 03:58 pmI have a question for those Browncoats who are more into the fandom than I am (looking specifically at
artcat81):
This flag was on the Dortmunder in the episode "Serenity":

And this flag was seen on the cargo crates in "The Train Job":

Which would you say is more correctly referred to as the Alliance flag? I don't remember where in the pilot the first flag was shown.
And for the second flag, would you display it this side up, or the other way around?
As far as the Browncoat flag, refresh my memory: it was decided that the star was blue and it should point downward, yes?

Hooray for disjointed thoughts!
Apr. 18th, 2007 09:25 pmIt's unusual for me to remember dreams. That makes the night before last unusual because (a) I remembered my dream, and (b) it was very very weird.
The dream was a movie trailer starring the hip, manic black comedian of the moment. He was lying on a table, spread eagle, with the camera positioned above him. Then the camera started zooming in on his bright red shorts. And closer, and closer, to the point where the camera gets microscopic enough to fit through the fabric.
And the camera kept zooming in -- so follow me now, we're inside his shorts -- and thankfully instead of Hip Manic Black Comedian's genitals, we see a diagram of the internals of said area, a highly detailed textbook-style artistic diagram -- one like you'd find in Gray's Anatomy.
But then -- and this is the weird part -- the diagram turns into an animation, and it morphs into the female version of the diagram.
Then the camera starts pulling out, back through the shorts -- and we close with a shot of Hip Manic Black Comedian, now with boobs, thrashing about and screaming bloody murder.
We fade to white, and the movie's title comes up on screen: "YOU'RE PRETTY".
I did warn you it was weird.
So at work I've been busy updating our database of San Antonio roadways. I have decided when I become Emperor of San Antonio my first decree will be to rename every north-south street Harry Wurzbach, and every east-west street Military. Just to keep things clear.
(For everyone but
aggieteacher00 and
amothea: San Antonio has three major thoroughfares named after the Wurzbach family: Harry Wurzbach Rd., Wurzbach Rd., and Wurzbach Pkwy. There are also four separate thoroughfares named Military: SE/SE Military, W Military -- in two parts -- and NW Military. To further add to the confusion, NW Military used to be named Wurzbach Highway.)
Missed As the Geiger Counter Turns -- aka Jericho -- because Thank God You're Here has been moved into that timeslot. I'll pick up Jericho tomorrow night.
Houston-types: I'm thinking about having some folks over Saturday afternoon after Lai Lai's to watch the new season of Doctor Who. Any interest?

Weekend update
Jan. 15th, 2007 09:25 amFirst, happy birthday
jaala!
It's been a surprisingly unproductive weekend for me. Went to see Children of Men on Saturday. I highly recommend it. It's quite dark and depressing, but ends on a hopeful note. Sunday was a Browncoat shindig for
wyrdfae's birthday (which is Tuesday).
As the weather has turned dreary, and as we're supposed to get a taste of the ice storm which has hit elsewhere in the state, I may hang close to the house today.
Thank goodness for a 3-day weekend.

valgrl!
My trip to Austin was fine. My b-i-l was completely overwhelmed by his susrprise party.

Sunday talk
Jun. 25th, 2006 11:04 amFirst on the agenda: happy birthday to
autographedcat!
It's a lazy weekend. Fortunately I have a whole week of laziness to look forward to since I'm on vacation! My plans are still up in the air, though. I had been planning a county-hunting trip to Jacksonville, but there's a tropical depression forming off the Bahamas, and the forecast track takes it over -- wait for it -- Jacksonville! If the weather does not cooperate, I may head to the Hill Country. I haven't seen the Caverns of Sonora in ages, and I'm curious about the new 80 mph speed limit on I-10 west of Kerrville. That would be the fastest I've ever legally driven.
So, this weekend is Apollocon here in Houston. Got to hang with all my Browncoat friends:
artcat81,
amothea,
chuckybones,
endless_death,
happyfishy80,
perkyshai,
redfeather1,
ryvn, Val,
wyrdfae,
wyrdfaespoolboy, and the rest, some of whom I'm sure have LJs...
It was great seeing some of my Dallas friends: Tim (Fan Guest of Honor!), Mary, Iain, Ed, Robin,
reudaly, Tamisan (Best in Show in the Masquerade!) and the rest. Sure wish more of you had made the trip.
I knew I was getting older when I read Tim's bio in the con program, in which
rachelcaine described ORAC as a "venerable local Dallas-area SF club" (true)... and then realizing I helped found that club nearly 20 years ago! (Tim and I were discussing this, and he had the idea of marking that anniversary at next year's Fencon.)
The dryer has just buzzed, so warm jeans await!
