I felt slightly important this morning when I opened my e-mail to find the following:

Stephen Fry is now following you on Twitter!

I did exchange e-mails with him a few years ago...

Looks like FedCon USA, the convention that treated Aaron Douglas and James Callis (and most of their other guests) so badly, is shutting down in mid-convention.

Forget what I said about making Creation look good. They're now making FlanVention look good.

Big PSA: FedConUSA has nothing to do with the very successful Dallas convention Fencon, which is hosting its fifth convention this October. Fencon is run by a bunch of people who know where their towels are, unlike FedConUSA.

Exhibit 1: Fedcon USA vs. Aaron Douglas and James Callis.

Exhibit 2: More of the same.

They're making Creation look good.

eta: More from the Chief himself.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mnelson for pointing this out:

88 Lines About 44 Fangirls

Absolutely awesome.

I always have a fantastic time at FenCon, mainly because my friends from ORAC are involved in putting it together, but also because they do a heckuva job.

This year's con was at a new hotel (which I remember from the first WhoFest), and with everything laid out on one level, was amazingly easy to get around.

I saw so many people from my flist... too many to name. If I missed seeing you, I'm sorry.

Message relayed. Response follows:

"Tell [livejournal.com profile] balthrop to tell [livejournal.com profile] simon_says110 he is going to be an only child."

This was after an intimation of specific bodily harm.

First on the agenda: happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] autographedcat!

It's a lazy weekend. Fortunately I have a whole week of laziness to look forward to since I'm on vacation! My plans are still up in the air, though. I had been planning a county-hunting trip to Jacksonville, but there's a tropical depression forming off the Bahamas, and the forecast track takes it over -- wait for it -- Jacksonville! If the weather does not cooperate, I may head to the Hill Country. I haven't seen the Caverns of Sonora in ages, and I'm curious about the new 80 mph speed limit on I-10 west of Kerrville. That would be the fastest I've ever legally driven.

So, this weekend is Apollocon here in Houston. Got to hang with all my Browncoat friends: [livejournal.com profile] artcat81, [livejournal.com profile] amothea, [livejournal.com profile] chuckybones, [livejournal.com profile] endless_death, [livejournal.com profile] happyfishy80, [livejournal.com profile] perkyshai, [livejournal.com profile] redfeather1, [livejournal.com profile] ryvn, Val, [livejournal.com profile] wyrdfae, [livejournal.com profile] wyrdfaespoolboy, and the rest, some of whom I'm sure have LJs...

It was great seeing some of my Dallas friends: Tim (Fan Guest of Honor!), Mary, Iain, Ed, Robin, [livejournal.com profile] reudaly, Tamisan (Best in Show in the Masquerade!) and the rest. Sure wish more of you had made the trip.

I knew I was getting older when I read Tim's bio in the con program, in which [livejournal.com profile] rachelcaine described ORAC as a "venerable local Dallas-area SF club" (true)... and then realizing I helped found that club nearly 20 years ago! (Tim and I were discussing this, and he had the idea of marking that anniversary at next year's Fencon.)

The dryer has just buzzed, so warm jeans await!

I would like to wish everyone on my flist a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Joyous Kwanzaa and a great weekend!

Shopping's done! Woot!

I stopped by Remember When one last time today. Sharon's selling the inventory and will be closing sometime next month. I'll really miss Remember When. It was Sandy Williams (who managed the store oh so many years ago) who got me into organized fandom in the first place.

My birthday was OK. Started out slow, worked up to a bunch of fun when Sara had all us Houston Browncoats over to her apartment complex for a full night of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Some of them are so young... one remarked "Hey, I didn't know Sousa wrote that!" referring to the Liberty Bell March, the Python theme song.

Met some really shiny folks I hadn't seen at our monthly shindigs yet.

It's great to finally have a fannish home here.

Prezzies? A check from Dad, and (I cheated and looked on my Amazon wish list to see what was bought for me) Season 1 of Butterflies on DVD, and the Second City Almanac of Improvisation. One is from my mom, one is from my sister. I'll find out when I get them.
