All rise for the verdict
Mar. 22nd, 2005 04:17 pmThe verdict from CompUSA is: the partition is corrupt.
But all is not lost yet. A guy here at work is going to bring in a program that will try to recover data from corrupt partitions.
I'm also going to need to buy a new HD, format it with a new copy of XP*, and then get ready to pull data from the old drive, if possible.
So the news is bad, but not necessarily catastrophic.
*I do have a copy of Windows 2000, but I'm not sure all my software will work on Win2K.
ETA: This will actually be good in a way. The old HD was itself ghosted from another smaller HD. I can now have a fresh install of Windows. And I can have the other drive to store my documents, and make regular backups!
ETA: I'm not convinced the partition is corrupt. When I try to boot the machine in safe mode, a list of drivers starts scrolling by, and stops at "agp440.sys". Do you think their diagnostic tools couldn't read an NTFS partition?
