2 Feet of Snow in March and 6 Inches of Rain in April
Apr. 15th, 2026 08:54 pmSo this is fun. The flooded commercial center in the first few pics is about 2 miles north of our house, and the washed-out bridge about 2 miles south of us. We're fine, being probably 100+ feet above the river (and a good bit inland to boot), but it's putting a big crimp in local traffic, and the county asked the schools to close today due to these and other road impacts.
Basically, probably-record rainfall for here in the last few days, like approaching normal Houston rainfall rates. It's also been entertaining watching the construction next door, on the lot at the low point of our little valley. They did all that digging through the week, set up the footing forms on sunny Saturday, and then the lowest level got buried in a foot of collected water on Sunday. They pumped it out Monday morning and poured the footings. After Monday night's rain the lowest new footings were under 2 or 3 feet of water. They pumped it out and set up the metal plate forms for the foundation walls. More rain last night (Tuesday), but it wasn't collected above the lowest footing. Today they pumped in the concrete for all the foundation walls, and this afternoon they brought the form truck back in, presumably with the intent of taking the forms off and away tomorrow.
I'm going to suggest to whomever buys that house that they keep a close eye out for foundation issues, 'cause I can't imagine it's going to set up properly in that level of wet, assuming they're using standard mixes for the area.
