How many have your name?

Apparently I died in Amarillo, TX, in September 2005, aged 87.

And I'm a supervisor at Weyerhauser.

And I was involved in a "unusual" purchase of cattle in Wisconsin in 1998.

And I teach math at Little Wolf High School in Manawa, Wisconsin.

And I'm a sales manager at Matrix Telecommunications.

So that's five, plus me... where are the other three hiding?

This is actually a statistics game. They're just calculating the odds of your first and last name combination. Apparently, there are 1,416,936 in the U.S. with my first name, and only 1,064 with my last name. I'm surprised at how low the first number is and how high the second is. And apparently, there are 5 people in the U.S. with my name. I know of two of them, but one married a couple of years ago and changed it.

I figured they didn't actually go through census records and count all of us up. I've got a rare enough name that 9 might be close to the actual number.

Not only does this site claim that there "no" people with my full name (which will certainly surprise my father) but it further asserts that "There are 0 people in the U.S. with the last name Dravecky." This will no doubt come as a shock not only to my entire family but also to the families of former San Francisco Giants pitcher Dave Dravecky and current Manchester Monarchs forward Vladimir Dravecky. Yes, I read their explanation but I don't find it terribly useful even as an exercise in misuse of statistics.

I know there is a Lisa Shirley who knows someone called Mari -- but she is not me. Unless my niece Mari wrote a poem using my name, but making the main character a poor Hispanic woman who has had her food stamps stolen. (Mari swears it wasn't her.)
