Yay for 5½ days off work is more like it.

Wednesday, the cable guy (not Jim Carrey, I hope) was scheduled to come between 2 and 4 to check out a weak signal problem that caused me to lose HDNet, HDNet Movies, ESPNHD and TNTHD -- but only right after a significant rainfall, of which there has been enough in Houston recently, thankyou.

So with this schedule in mind, and the office closing early for the holiday, I'd planned for him to be done by 4 and to be on the highway shortly afterward.

At 2:40, Time Warner calls and tells me I'm confirmed for between 2 and 4.

At 4:40, I call Time Warner and ask them where the heck my technician is. They apologize profusely and explain that due to the severe storms the previous night, they are extremely backed up, and would I be there at 5:45?

Needless to say, I cancelled the service call. I'll schedule a week's vacation around their trip next time.

So I managed to hit the highway around 5, made it to Hempstead (290/6 split) a little after 6:15 (not bad considering the heavy traffic on the West Sam and on 290), and ate dinner in College Station.

One of the benefits of being a data analyst for Metro Traffic is getting to see all the data feeds from around the country. So I was overjoyed to read the Dallas feed and find out that the Corsicana construction on I-45 has been suspended for the holidays. That area south of Corsicana backs up pretty badly on weekends and holidays. I usually take 290 to 6 to 35 to avoid that area.

Taking the updated info into account, I chose to take Highway 14 to I-45 rather than following Highway 6 to Waco.

What I didn't take into account was that the northbound 14 ramp to northbound 45 is still closed. Got detoured onto Farm Road BR-549-ring-2 with someone rightonmyass all the way to I-45. Grr.

So I'm home now, enjoying Thanksgiving with my mom; my sister and her husband came up from Austin for dinner; they drooled over the IKEA catalog. (Yay for gift ideas!)

Went to get my car inspected today, and Jiffy Lube's inspection computer crashed right as it was sending the data to the DPS. They couldn't get it to reboot, and the DPS office was closed today. I went back by a couple of hours later and all was well, and $39.50 later I have a lovely "11/5" sticker on the windshield.

I'm looking forward to going back to Houston to get some rest.
