Why I was up late last night

My next door neighbor came over at 9:30 to tell me she had been burgled. The police pulled up just as we went back next door. The perps broke into her bedroom window while she was gone yesterday afternoon, and took two VCRs (but left the TVs and stereo) and a Palm Pilot (but left the sync/charge cradle -- and left the laptop computer it was hooked up to). UPDATE -- also missing were all of her brown paper grocery sacks, her digital camera, a "one shot" camera and a blanket. She works as an auditor, and is out of town for days at a time. (I help keep an eye on her kitties and her house while she's out of town.) Needless to say, I'm becoming more careful about locking all the doors at all times...

This morning, Sandy said that she found all the windows (except the two on the front porch) had been unlocked - even the bathroom ones. And while she and her friend who came over to stay the night were nailing the windows shut that somebody came to the front of the house and started yelling at them to stop... and so she called the police again...
