A win for human beings!

The HEB I shop at is removing its U-Scan machines "in order to provide a more customer-focused enviroment."

I don't mind the U-Scan if I only have one or two items and if the machines work well. The ones at the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market in Richardson work fine, but at the Albertsons up the road, I had nothing but trouble. And Albertsons in Dallas/Fort Worth now have handheld scanners available for you to scan and bag your groceries as you shop! Nothing like that down here (because Albertsons pulled out of Houston last year).

I use the U-Scan at Albertsons' Belt Line/Plano location. The scanning part is fine, but every single time I get an "unexpected item in bagging area" alert that makes me wait for a cashier to come over and whack the machine into submission. Feh.

Oh down here we're too lazy for that sort of carry-on! No-sirree...we're old school round these parts. Except my superduper don't pack yer bags for you. Yip, you pack - you save.
