Alliance flags: correctness?

I have a question for those Browncoats who are more into the fandom than I am (looking specifically at artcat81):

This flag was on the Dortmunder in the episode "Serenity":



And this flag was seen on the cargo crates in "The Train Job":



Which would you say is more correctly referred to as the Alliance flag? I don't remember where in the pilot the first flag was shown.
And for the second flag, would you display it this side up, or the other way around?

As far as the Browncoat flag, refresh my memory: it was decided that the star was blue and it should point downward, yes?

the answer to the alliance flags is... yes both are shown both are used, I think the visual companion does pic one and stick with it, but im not near mine right now. yes the star is blue and points downward- comicaly that was a mistake in costuming that the fans just ran with because its more recognizable.
