Eleven years ago today, the person who meant more to me than anyone died.

The world is an infinitely sadder place without Hilary's generosity, warmth and love.

Love you always, Sweeney Bear.

I'm in Dallas this weekend for Christmas. My mom and sister completely spoiled me. Tomorrow it's off to Granbury for Christmas with my dad & stepmom. Hope you're having a good Christmas too.

Considering I had only ever left Texas twice before I was 18, and that to bordering states (Louisiana and Coahuila). But I made up for lost time:

visited 45 states (90%)
Create your own visited map of The United States

And north of the border, to my adopted Canadia. Working on it:

visited 3 states (23.0%)
Create your own visited map of Canada

I'm aiming to visit every county in North America. Here's my progress:

I really need to get out of North America more:

visited 3 states (1.33%)
Create your own visited map of The World

Heading off to my annual Canadian trip shortly. Don't burn the Internet down while I'm gone!

Easy. It was when Alison called to tell me that Hilary had died.

My shampoo bottle is bilingual English/Spanish. My body wash bottle is bilingual English/French.

I'm not complaining, although I'm aware of people who do.

I do have some sympathy for Spanish speakers here who want to do business in their language. I can speak from brief experience touring through exclusively francophone areas of Québec that signage in a foreign language can be a challenge. Like the first time I came across a sign for a "dépanneur" (convenience store) -- my French-English dictionary said it was a "wrench".

On the other hand, I also understand the position of many of the francophone majority in Québec, and I don't have too much of a problem with their signage law -- languages other than French are allowed so long as French is markedly predominant. Part of me wouldn't mind seeing something like that here.

...is switch grocery stores.

I normally shop at H-E-B because they seem to have better prices than Kroger or Randalls (Safeway). But there are a couple of items -- breakfast sandwiches and pancake mix -- where H-E-B doesn't carry my preferred brand. So it's off to Randalls just a few blocks from the condo to pick up those two items.

Until today when I saw the signs that my Randalls is closing for renovation. The aisles were already quite bare, so I went to the next closest Randalls to find my items.

It's almost like my old Randalls except for the location of all the items...

My pancake mix was found under "juices". Yeah, I thought they'd be in the "Baking Zone" but...

At least the frozen breakfast sandwiches were in the frozen food aisle.

According to this, the Javascript in question was supposed to have appended LJ's affiliate tags only to links that did not have affiliate tags. The code was pulled when it was discovered that it didn't. Then the redirection was discovered, so LJ says they are not going to continue to use the service.

[livejournal.com profile] kylecassidy (who is on the LJ Advisory Board) posts this update.

And [livejournal.com profile] shatterstripes has done much sleuthing: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.

The TV Production Music Museum (yeah, there is one) just posted "Part of Your Life", which was a news music package by Al Ham, who also wrote "Move Closer to Your World".

I haven't heard "Part of Your Life" for years. KXAS in Fort Worth/Dallas used this music for "Area Five Texas News" from around 1974 to 1977, when they changed to "Action News" and picked up "Move Closer to Your World".

"Move Closer" is still being used by WPVI in Philadelphia and WKBW in Buffalo.

I know I've been bad about posting here for quite a while. Sorry about that. I've been on Facebook more and more. I'll try to remember to post longer items here; these entries do get picked up by Facebook.

The Random Recipe Generator.

Here are some of the prize winners I have come up with:

Cream Surprise
Serves 5
You will need:

   * 20g noodles
   * 20g raisins
   * 110g pasta
   * 70ml cream
   * 110ml apple sauce

Instructions:

  1. pre-heat the oven to 220 C
  2. fry the noodles
  3. heat the noodles in the saucepan
  4. sift the cream
  5. eat the cream
  6. mix the noodles in
  7. bring the noodles to the boil
  8. rinse the raisins
  9. eat the pasta
10. add one tablespoon of the raisins
11. bring the raisins to the boil
12. barbeque the apple sauce
13. bake for 60 minutes and serve hot

The surprise is that there is no cream in it as it's already been eaten.

Here's one that suits my cooking skill:

Essence Of Vanilla Soup
Serves 2
You will need:

30ml essence of vanilla
5 lime

Instructions:

1. put the essence of vanilla in the saucepan
2. put the lime in the saucepan
3. enjoy

Bacon Supreme
Serves 4
You will need:

* 10g cheese
* 10g bacon

Instructions:

1. put the cheese in the saucepan
2. grill the bacon
3. serve piping hot

Lime Supreme
Serves 3
You will need:

* 5 lime
* 40ml vinegar

Instructions:

1. barbeque the vinegar
2. sift the lime
3. throw it all away
